Nesting

Supposedly in the last month or so of pregnancy, woman have a nesting instinct and in a burst of energy, start to prepare the house for the baby.  I think Luke has been feeling the same way.  Our kitchen was our least favorite room in the house.  It barely had any storage or counter space.  And we desperately needed a dishwasher.

So first he bought used cabinets from the Evanston Rebuilding Warehouse, a nonprofit organization, and fixed them up.

Then with the help of his dad and brother, he installed our new dishwasher!

demolition! the fun part.

installation.  not as much fun.

it's amazing what a few changes can do to a room!

The nursery

My parents, sister, and her husband got us a crib!  Luke put it together this morning.  It is so beautiful!  We couldn't resist putting on the bedskirt and displaying the quilt.

I'm finally starting to think of this room as the nursery and not just the second bedroom.

Baby Shower!

My sister is amazing.  She flew back into town and put together our first baby shower.  It was perfect.  The decorations were handmade.  The cupcakes were light and fluffy and delicious.  It was mostly family and like most family gatherings, there was a lot of food (buffet!) and laughter.  And we got so many cute and useful gifts!

It all still seems a little surreal.  It's hard to believe March 19th is only 9 weeks away!

Good thing my husband is practicing.  :)

Happy New Year!

We finally started on the nursery New Years Eve.  We went out and bought the paint (Benjamin Moore - calming aloe) and some supplies.  Luke's dad and brother came over to help and they were done after one coat in about 45 minutes!

It's a little hard to see in the pictures but it came out perfect!

Goodbye 2011, Hello Diet

A couple weeks ago, I got results of my 1 hour glucose test.  I had failed.  So I went back yesterday for the 3 hour glucose test.  I had to sit in the blood bank, drink the horrible drink again (which made me nauseous) and then get my blood drawn every hour.  It sucked.  And again I failed.  I was never good at taking tests.

So it looks like I will be seeing a dietician next week.  I guess it isn't a huge shock, considering my grandfather had diabetes and my mother was diagnosed last year.  The hope is that with gestational diabetes, my blood sugar can be controlled through diet and then it will go away.  I'm just not looking forward to restricting my diet.

But I will try not to complain because we want this baby more than anything!  And in the end, it will all be worth it.  Besides, it's just another thing to hold over her head when she gets older and can feel guilt.  :)
